Richmond, Virginia, U.S. – May 1, 2014 – SoftChalk, LLC, a leading developer of content authoring solutions for eLearning, today announced the three winners and honorable mentions for its annual Lesson Challenge.
The Lesson Challenge takes place each year and gives SoftChalk enthusiasts a chance to be recognized for the innovative and engaging content they create. All entries are submitted publically on SoftChalk Cloud, by their author, where they are then assigned and reviewed by a panel of judges.
The panel of judges consists of leading online educators who score the lessons using a subset of the Quality Matters judging rubric with specific categories including lesson creativity, professionalism, interactivity, and how well the lesson reinforces student learning. The 2014 SoftChalk Lesson challenge had an impressive 117 entries, making it the most competitive challenge yet.
This year’s winning lessons include the 1st place grand-prize winner, Shannon Thomas of McLennan Community College with a lesson titled Introduction to the Human Body, the 2nd place prize winner, Jan Spinato of Kenai Peninsula College at the University of Alaska with Writing Basics, and the 3rd place winner, Lisa Ferris and Dr. Arlo Kahn of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, with a lesson titled Nutrition and Cardiovascular Disease.
Five honorable mentions were also selected. Sheryne Southard of Clayton State University with a lesson titled, American Government (Self-Paced); Lisa Cooley of Piedmont Community College with MAT 155 Statistical Analysis-What’s the Message?; Phillip Clark of Scottsdale Community College with Polynomial Functions; Jan Spinato of Kenai Peninsula College at the University of Alaska with Introduction to Linear Functions; and Shannon Thomas of McLennan Community College with The Muscular System.
