Richmond, Virginia, U.S. – October 13, 2010 – SoftChalk, an award-winning provider of e-Learning software, today announced a new update to the content authoring solution, SoftChalk 6. This significant update allows SoftChalk users to publish learning materials directly into the MERLOT collection. In addition, users can search, find and integrate MERLOT digital content into media-rich SoftChalk lessons.
The SoftChalk update allows users to publish learning objects, lessons, and eCourses to CONNECT, SoftChalk’s Learning Object Repository. Once the content is hosted in CONNECT, it can be directly submitted to the MERLOT collection from within the SoftChalk application. These new features simplify the process for creating and submitting content to MERLOT. In addition, content authors who previously did not have ready access to a public web site to host their content submissions are now able to use the SoftChalk CONNECT site to host learning content they wish to share with the community.
Susan Evans, CEO of SoftChalk, said, “We are excited to collaborate with MERLOT in an effort to support the easy creation, discovery, and adoption of Open Educational Resources (OERs) throughout the education community. MERLOT is a wonderful resource for educators, and we hope that these new SoftChalk features will encourage faculty to create and share high quality educational content under Creative Commons licensing.”
“The alliance between MERLOT and SoftChalk will result in a wonderful opportunity to increase the effectiveness of creating, discovering, sharing and utilizing rich media content. This partnership is another step towards our mission to improve teaching and learning by expanding the quantity and increasing the quality of online learning materials,” said Gerry Hanley, executive director of MERLOT and senior director of Academic Technology Services for the California State University, Office of the Chancellor.
SoftChalk will be demonstrating the new SoftChalk CONNECT – MERLOT integration at booth number 1442/1444 in the exhibit hall during Educause 2010.
