RICHMOND, VA, April 04, 2011 — SoftChalk, LLC, a leading developer of content authoring software for e-Learning, today announced three winners and two honorable mentions for its annual Lesson Challenge. SoftChalk hosts this challenge each year to recognize leaders in the educational community who are creating innovative content using SoftChalk.
The Lesson Challenge, an online contest that ran from November through January, gave SoftChalk enthusiasts a chance to use their lesson content for something besides engaging students—winning money! This year another component was added to the contest—all entries were required to be uploaded and shared by their author on SoftChalk CONNECT, SoftChalk’s learning object repository.
The entries were reviewed by a panel of skilled educators and scored using a Quality Matters judging rubric with specific categories including lesson creativity, professionalism, interactivity, and how well the lesson reinforces student learning.
The winning lessons include the 1st place prize winner, Clifton Franklund of Ferris State University with a Microbiology Laboratory Manual, the 2nd place prize winner, Leah MacVie of Canisius College with MISSON SoftChalk, a SoftChalk training module; and the 3rd place winner, Kristin Bartholomew of Valencia Community College with a Nutrition Support & Metabolic Stress lesson.
Two honorable mentions were also chosen. Phillip Clark of Scottsdale Community College with a lesson titled, Introduction to Differential Equations and Dianne Jennings of Virginia Commonwealth University with a lesson on Academic Integrity.
Susan Deihl, Marketing Director of SoftChalk said, “We love seeing the creative work that SoftChalk users create. This year we really took the challenge to a new level by requiring that all entries were shared on SoftChalk CONNECT. Now this great content is not only exemplary, it’s available for others to view and use through Creative Commons licensing.”
SoftChalk hopes that the winning lessons will inspire other SoftChalk users to create innovative lessons and discover why “If it’s not easy, it’s not SoftChalk!” For more information or to view the winning lessons, visit the 2011 Lesson Challenge Winners blog post.
