From the Support Center: ScoreCenter is Here

Blackboard 9.0 and 9.1 Users …

Would you like to get more detailed scoring information from students who take your online courses that include SoftChalk lessons? Would you like the options for collecting the scores based on the first attempt, average of all the scores, the most recent score or the highest score? Would you like to have these scores go directly into the Blackboard grade center?

SoftChalk’s ScoreCenter feature provides you with all these options! You have the ability to publish your lesson within SoftChalk in the ScoreCenter format directly to Blackboard. This feature is available through an update to SoftChalk 6. (When you start SoftChalk 6, if there is an update available, you should be notified. Within SoftChalk, you can also choose Help/Check for Updates.)

You can find details on using the ScoreCenter in the SoftChalk Blackboard 9.0 and 9.1 Integration Guide.

We now recommend that you use the ScoreCenter method of collecting scores from your students rather than the SCORM format.

Below are the basic steps on using ScoreCenter.

  1. Your Blackboard administrator will need to install an updated SoftChalk Building Block and other information.
  2. Once the building block is installed, you will need to get a new access code for your course and set up your server information (typically a 2 minute process). Details will be explained in the SoftChalk Blackboard 9.0 and 9.1 Integration Guide.
  3. Within your SoftChalk lesson, choose File/Publish Lesson/Publish tab. Connect to your server.
  4. Select your course and the folder within your course where you want to publish your lesson.
  5. For the format, choose ScoreCenter. (Choose this option rather than SCORM 2004). If this option is disabled, please contact your Blackboard administrator to install the updated SoftChalk Building Block and other information.)
  6. Notice your options. You can set the number of attempts allowed for your students to access the lesson. You can also set the scoring option that will determine what score appears in the Blackboard Grade Center: First score, Average score, Most Recent score or Highest score.
  7. After selecting your options, you can publish your lesson to Blackboard.
  8. Once your students complete your lesson in Blackboard, you can view your scores within the ScoreCenter area of the Blackboard Grade Center. (Again, you will be able to view details in the SoftChalk Blackboard 9.0 and 9.1 Integration Guide.)

I am planning on using BB 9, with Softchalk’s ScoreCenter.
Will this BB set-up also allow for Lesson Reporting with an E-mail address?

    Thank you.

      Hi Evette,

Yes, you can choose a separate option in SoftChalk for email reporting:

Within SoftChalk 6, choose Properties/Lesson Reporting/Email completion results checkbox.

We want to add, that with the ScoreCenter feature, there is also an Email option when students click the Finish button on the last page of the lesson as well as a print certificate button.

Students may find having two email options a little confusing but you have the option.

In Softchalk, I want to publish a lesson using the Score Center option, however, I don’t see the correct course. I have set up the access code but not all of the courses I have access to appear when I try to publish my lesson. Can you tell me what is wrong – why can’t I see all the courses my login has access to? In this particular course, I can see the Softchalk Scorecenter option in the Control Panel Course Tools area.

Hi, I am a student using Blackboard with some Soft Chalk activities/apps. I am not able to access these activities. I click on the yellow box marked “ScL” and am directed to the appropriate page, but it immediately grays out and the following error message is displayed: “scorecenter connection error, This lesson could not connect to scorecenter. Please try again later.” I have been trying on and off for four days now on multiple computers. PLEASE ADVISE VIA EMAIL if possible. Thank you.

Hi, I’m an instructor using Softchalk and Blackboard 9.1 as the LMS. I would like to know if it’s free to install the SoftChalk ScoreCentre Building Block. The BB administrators in my university are concerned about this issue.

    Please advise! Thanks!

I am trying to publish a lesson in my course. When I click submit I get a message: Tool provider is not configured yet.
Can I do this or does the system administrator need to? We are on spring break! 🙁

I have created a lesson with three activities – crossword puzzle, drag n drop, and quiz. The grades for the crossword and drag n drop do not show in the grade center in Blackboard. How can I fix this?

I have windows 7 and am using Softchalk version 8. I am unable to package my lesson. It will save without any issues but every time I try to package it, the cursor just spins.
This is the only lesson that I have had this issue with.
