Just For Fun
Before we begin discussing this module, I have some fun images that you can view and hopefully see the hidden images within! I don't know if these are still popular, but when I was a little younger, these posters were selling like crazy and could be found most anywhere (including me having one with a hidden image of a surfer in my bedroom)! These pictures contain hidden images and are called stereograms.
Stereograms work on planes or layers; an image is sliced from front to back into 256 layers. The depth map is interpreted by our special Stereogram software to create the hidden image. While this isn't covered in the text, it is fun and interesting and yet another example of sensation and perception! Here are some tips for viewing in case you are having some difficulty.
1. Pick a spot on the picture (the middle seems to work best) and just stare at it.
2. Allow your eyes to relax, don't just stare AT the image, try to stare THROUGH it. You'll notice your eyes will go slightly out of focus. This is normal.
3. Keep staring, don't give up, once you begin to see the first image, it gets much easier
Hopefully you were able to see at least one of the hidden images! If not, don't feel bad, these often take some practice!
