Virtual College of Texas Licenses New Cloud-Based Content Authoring Platform

VCT Joins Dozens of US Institutions in Subscribing to SoftChalk Cloud

AUSTIN, TEXAS — September, 12, 2012 —  The Virtual College of Texas (VCT) announced today system wide availability of SoftChalk Cloud to its member community and technical colleges. This further enables the colleges to develop and deliver interactive and engaging online courses and programs for their combined student population of approximately 753,000. SoftChalk Cloud is a new cloud-based content authoring platform, the latest in a line of educator-friendly content authoring products from award-winning educational software producer, SoftChalk LLC.

With this product, VCT seeks to help faculty produce better courses and facilitate sharing of courses among its member colleges, irrespective of the learning management system (LMS) used.

“Instructors report that the courses they produce with SoftChalk are better, and producing them is easier,” says Ron Thomson, Director of VCT. “With SoftChalk Cloud, working together to produce even better courses becomes both feasible and convenient.”

VCT is a statewide collaborative of two-year colleges, established by the Texas Association of Community Colleges (TACC) to increase access to online courses, degrees and certificates. Since 2008, SoftChalk has been an important part of the TACC Student Success Initiative, which aims to improve instruction.

“We are excited to further expand our relationship with the VCT/TACC system of colleges,” stated Sue Polyson-Evans, CEO of SoftChalk, LLC. “We are educators at heart and believe SoftChalk Cloud will be a valuable addition to their online learning initiatives and further enhance the teaching and learning experience.”

A key strength of SoftChalk Cloud is its ability to operate within a diverse LMS environment. Moreover, SoftChalk Cloud allows collaboration whereby multiple content authors may create, edit, share and deliver media rich content seamlessly. Large systems of colleges, universities as well as school districts are adopting SoftChalk Cloud because it makes all this possible for educators without creating additional headaches for IT departments and support staff.
